§ 25.84. Cross-connection protection requirements.

  • (a) The City Public Utilities Department is responsible for protecting the water within the city-owned public water system. The Health Officer and the Building Department shall also implement the cross-connection control program.
    (b) Unprotected cross-connections with the public water supply are prohibited.
    (c) Whenever backflow protection is necessary, the City shall require the water user to install an approved backflow prevention device by and at the user's expense for continued service or before a new service will be granted.
    (d) Whenever backflow protection is necessary on a water supply line entering a water user's premises, then any and all water supply lines from the public water system entering such premises, buildings, or structures shall be protected by an approved backflow prevention device. The type of device to be installed will be in accordance with the cross-connection rules and regulations.
    (e) Whenever backflow protection is necessary at a water use site on the water user's system, then that water use site shall be protected by an approved backflow prevention device. The type of device to be installed will be in accordance with the cross-connection rules and regulations.
